Artist statement
In my artistic practice, I draw inspiration from observing my own feelings and memories. My aim is to depict and reveal to the viewer the aesthetic quality of complex psychological states, without romanticising them, but rather by viewing them as an integral part of the human experience.

One of my favourite mediums is relief printing techniques, such as drypoint, monotype and linocut. My choice of these particular techniques stems from the fact that printmaking is something that cannot be fully mastered, just like one’s own feelings about life. But I love it precisely for this imperfection; I love the various small, imperfect artefacts in the finished work, for it is they that bring this work to life and give it its own character, which correlates with the nature of human sensations.

The colour scheme in my prints is based on the dominance of black, which for me is a metaphor for anxiety and loneliness. In my practice, I often turn to depictions of animalistic images that embody pure emotions and sensations. My works feature images of fragile, defenceless birds, which embody the artist’s vulnerable ‘self’. Another integral image in my work is the key, which symbolises an endless desire to find answers.
